My first bottle of Raymond Reserve Cab was their 1998 release, and I have been in love with this wine ever since. I don't know if they've ever equaled their 98 vintage, but every year they consistently deliver an excellent wine! ... Always one of my favorite Cabs ... and at an excellent price considering some wines that sell for 2 to 3 times their price that don't deliver like Raymond's Reserve always does.

Aromas of blackberry, cassis, dried cherries and a hint of earth. Flavors of ripe dark cherries, boysenberry, spice and a touch of smoke. An elegant wine that is well-structured, complex and beautifully balanced. Tannins are lively enough to hold up to extended aging, but soft enough not to overwhelm the lush Rutherford and St. Helena fruit.

"Other wineries come and go. Raymond remains, offering solid Napa Valley Cab at a fair price. The '05 Reserve calls to mind the very fine 2000, but actually costs less. It's a dry, elegantly structured wine, rich in sweet fine tannins, and offering up complex, delicious flavors of freshly picked ripe blackberries, spicy cassis, baked cherry pie and smoky oak. Drink now through 2015."

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, this wine shows great depth and intensity. Rich, pronounced berry flavors are enhanced by an earthy nose and toasty oak finish. Fermented in stainless steel, the wine is moved to 60 gallon American and French barrels to complete an average of 22 months of aging. This classic red wine will pair nicely with grilled and roasted meats - beef, lamb, & pork - as well as roasted garlic, robust pastas and spicy vegetarian entrees.

"This reserve shows a shade more depth, complexity and finesse than the Raymond Napa Valley, with a pretty core of ripe black cherry, herb, anise, sage and berry that picks up nice vanilla and coffee accents on the finish.--1987 California Cabernet horizontal."

Raymond Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve St Helena
The Wine Enthusiast 90 points : 'A very lush, delicious Cabernet, ready to drink now for its softly oaked flavors of black currants, mocha and ripe plums. But it has the tannic structure to age gracefully for six years.' Feb 2009 Quoted at $60.00

"A beautiful Cabernet. Pretty tannic now, so if you drink, decant, and have with rich, oily meats and cheeses. But the heart of black cherries, and cassis, and the overall balance, enable this wine to develop over the next 68 years." -S.H.
