Red Wine by Beringer from Napa Valley, California. We've been making a vineyard-designated Bancroft Ranch Merlot since the 1987 vintage when I began to see what Merlot could really offer when planted in the right place. Bancroft Ranch is a very...

91 points Robert Parker: "The 1995 Merlot Bancroft Vineyard is cut from the same mold as the 1994. The wine is full-bodied, with terrific purity and sweetness of fruit, massive flavors, and layers of concentration. These wines possess beautifully integrated tannin, relatively high PH's (which only adds to the textural lushness and viscous mouthfeel), and long, concentrated, well-balanced finishes. The 1995 might turn out slightly softer than the 1994, but based on the evolution of these wines (their...

1991 Beringer Merlot Bancroft Ranch 750ml

Beringer Bancroft Ranch Napa Merlot 2002
After 24 months, Cabernet-like tannins in the Howell Mountain Merlot had enough time to soften, and that clove, cinnamon stick, and sweet spice aromas and flavors from the barrels had integrated well with the sweet black plum, blackberry, light orange rind, cocoa and minty characteristics from the grapes. Ed also chose to add almost 4 percent Cabernet Franc to the blend to bring a black cherry accent to the nose and elongate the finish.

The 1996 Merlot Bancroft Ranch was showing much better when I tasted it this year than it did eleven months earlier. The wine boasts a saturated purple color, as well as an exquisite nose of brandy-infused black cherries intermixed with melted chocolate. Dense and full-bodied, with striking sweetness and purity, this full-bodied, multi-layered Merlot has developed beautifully. Although it will benefit from another...

"Beringer's 1992 Bancroft Ranch Merlot ranks with the finest Matanzas Creek and Newton Merlots. It is a large-scaled, rich, ostentatiously-styled, chocolatey-flavored, full-bodied Merlot with deep color saturation, plenty of gutsy, chewy fruit, full body, and excellent purity and balance. Once again Beringer has shown that international corporate ownership can be synonymous with reference point wines. While it can be drunk now, this Merlot promises to be even better with 2-4 years of cellaring; it...

Bancroft Ranch Merlot has a quality I can only describe as all-around richness. Unlike some Merlots I've tasted, the wine from Bancroft has no hole in the middle. It delivers a consistent message from the first waft of its characteristic aromas through its long finish. I think this richness comes mostly from the concentrated blackberry and blueberry flavors but also partly from a kind of earthy quality typical of the vineyard. Underlying these flavors are more subtle notes of anise, tobacco and leather...
